Gryzlov: RF can demand Zakaev's extradition at the UN International Court

Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of the State Duma, has declared that in the closest future Russia will get an opportunity to address the International Court of the United Nations with the aim to solve the issue of deporting Ahmed Zakaev, now living in Great Britain, to the Russian justice.

Mr. Gryzlov has informed that on February 16, the State Duma will bring to ratification the international treaty on removal of a number of reservations from international agreements on fighting terrorism.

Due to the fact that the consequence of ratification will be de-facto recognition by Russia of international jurisdiction of the Court of the United Nations, Moscow "will be able to lodge a suit to the International Court, for example, against actions of Great Britain of non-extradition of Mr. Zakaev accused of committing acts of terror," the "Interfax" quotes Gryzlov's words.

Since December 5, 2002, Ahmed Zakaev, Emissary and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the self-proclaimed "Republic of Ichkeria," has been residing in London, where he had arrived from Denmark, which had refused to extradite him to Russia, having found the documents submitted by the Russian party to be insufficient. Since then, Russia has been trying to get Zakaev extradited from Great Britain.
