Georgia releases Abkhazian official Fridon Chakaberiya
Fridon Chakaberiya, head of the Abkhazian administration of Zemo Bargebi village of the Galskiy District, Abkhazia, has been released from custody. According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the release decision has been made today by the Kutaisi Court of Appeal.
Fridon Chakaberiya was condemned to 10 years of imprisonment by the Zugdidi City Court for drug transportation. At detention, a kilo of raw heroine was confiscated from Chakaberiya.
The judge of the Court of Appeal has explained the decision by a remedial agreement concluded by Mr. Chakaberiya with the State Office of Public Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, it has become known that this decision was made under the pressure of the Abkhazian party, who demanded to release Chakaberiya in exchange for releasing three Georgian students detained by Abkhazians.
