Georgian opposition demands Saakashvili's resignation
The sitting of the United National Board of the opposition, which comprises the leaders of the ten major oppositional political organizations, has moved a demand that Mikhail Saakashvili should resign from the post of President of Georgia. This demand has now become the main one at the action of the opposition.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the united opposition of Georgia have tonight held a meeting with Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, in Tbilisi, which took place in the Parliament of Georgia behind the closed doors and lasted for an hour. Mr Davis has noted that the public action underway now in Tbilisi shows a high level of democracy in the country, the State Internet channel "Russia" reports.
We remind you that the long-term action of the opposition under the slogan "Georgia - without President!" began at the house of Parliament of Georgia on Friday, November 2.
On the first day of the action, about 300,000 people took part in the meeting, having arrived from different regions of Georgia.
So far, the authorities of Georgia make no concessions to the oppositionists and insist on elections in autumn of 2008. In their turn, the opposition declares that should its demands be not satisfied, the process will not be limited by the meetings only.
On November 2, businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili joined the oppositionists who are holding the meeting in Tbilisi; earlier he expressed his readiness to finance the opposition. The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that some political scientists in Georgia believe that Mr Patarkatsishvili has the best chances to fugle the population of Georgia, noting that the United National Board of the opposition has no leader.
