CSTO leaders supported Russia's actions in South Ossetia

The leaders of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) have treated negatively the Georgia's actions in South Ossetia and have supported those of Russia, said Russian President Dmitri Medvedev in the press conference after the CSTO session held in Moscow.

We remind you that the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO member-countries, who held their session yesterday, on September 4, in Moscow, expressed their support to Russia in her conflict with Georgia, having blamed the latter as an aggressor against South Ossetia.

"Our partners in the Organization have given an unequivocal negative estimate of the actions of Georgia and of Georgia's aggression on South Ossetia, have supported the active role of Russia and stood for ensuring strong safety in South Ossetia and Abkhazia," said Mr Medvedev and emphasized that Russia stands for diplomatic settlement of disputable issues, and if necessary, it will toughly stand for its interests in the future. "This is out main lesson learnt from what happened (in South Ossetia)," the President added.

According to Dmitri Medvedev, in the issue of recognition of Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's independence the CSTO countries will proceed from the norms of the international law; however, the will be guided by their national interests.
