Ombudspersons on children's rights to appear in Rostov schools

Positions of ombudspersons (commissioners) on children's rights are introduced in schools of the Rostov Region. In the opinion of the officials, it will promote better microclimate in school environment, reduction of the count of offences and increase of legal literacy among pupils and their parents.

Let us note here that cases are known today of breaching children's rights in Rostov schools. Thus, in particular, this June, a criminal case was initiated in Rostov-on-Don against a teacher of primary forms at the elite Rostov school "Eureka-Development", who was charged of goofing on her pupils. According to children, she used to call names on them, banned to go out for a break and beat on their hands, if, in her opinion, they were bad in learning.

"As a result of analyzing the experience of other regions, we now understand the expediency of stage-by-stage introduction of school ombudspersons into educational establishments of the Region," said Deputy Governor Alexander Bedrik. This year, Alla Vasilieva, Ombudsperson on Children's Rights in the Rostov Region, has studied the experience of the Volgograd and Saratov Regions, where such school ombudspersons work for more than five years already. The Deputy Governor has noted that great work is ahead for stage-by-stage introduction of these positions in schools. It is necessary to explain everything to pupils, teachers and parents, and then to hold elections of ombudspersons and set up the necessary conditions for their successful work.

The duties of a school ombudsperson on children's rights include control over observance of the Laws "On Education" of the Russian Federation and the Region and children's rights. Also, the ombudsperson should form legal culture in schoolchildren, help them in mutual relations with each other and senior generation, as the website "161.ru" reports.
