Switzerland to represent Russia's interests in Georgia

The Swiss Confederation will represent the interests of Russia in Georgia. On Friday, December 5, The Swiss Federal Council approved draft agreements with Moscow and Tbilisi and entrusted the head of the Foreign Matters Department Micheline Calmi-Ray of foreign cases to sign the corresponding documents.

We remind you that on October 6 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia agreed with Switzerland on the issue to represent Russia's diplomatic interests in Tbilisi. The Swiss consent was obtained by Russian MFA on October 3.

"Georgia and Russia broke their diplomatic relations during the August conflict of 2008. After the Russian party's request the Federal Council announced in early October that Switzerland was ready to represent Russia's interests in Georgia, provided Georgia would accept the Switzerland's protective mandate of," says the communique of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

Let us note here that on December 5 Prime Minister of Georgia Grigol Mgaloblishvili reported about cadre reshuffling in the Government. Instead of Eka Tkeshelashvili, Grigol Vashadze who has Russian citizenship was appointed the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
