Zakareishvili: Georgian authorities give no reaction to opposition's demand on release of political prisoners

The opposition of Georgia has handed over to the authorities the list of political prisoners with a demand to set them free; however, so far, no reaction has followed, as stated by Georgian political scientist Paata Zakareishvili.

"As to the list of political prisoners, unfortunately, the authorities have done nothing. The list was given to them; there are quite a lot of people in prisons. Mainly, they are former participants in protest rallies and 'residents' of the 'cells' (cages) installed in the Rustaveli Avenue," he said.

"The activists then arrived to their regions from Tbilisi and were arrested there under various faked pretexts. And now, there are a lot of them - about 60 persons, as we judge from different sources," Mr Zakareishvili said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
