Astrakhan nationalists hold pickets in support of Stenin

Today, in the Astrakhan Region, two activists of the movement "Russians of Astrakhan" have held solo pickets in support of Igor Stenin, the convicted leader of the movement. The verdict to Stenin must be repealed, they said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Igor Stenin was sentenced to two years of colony-settlement for reposting an article on the war in Ukraine in the social network. His defence tried fruitlessly explaining the court that in fact the point was in a comment of another user under Stenin's entry; the defence has sent a complaint against the verdict to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has treated the criminal prosecution of Igor Stenin as politically motivated.

Today, on May 8, solo pickets in support of Igor Stenin were held in the urban-type dwelling settlement Ikryanoe and Krasnye Barrikady of the Astrakhan Region. Also, in the course of their pickets, activists spoke against the policy of the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The solo pickets were held by Dmitry Kovalyov and Victor Filatov. According to their story, they decided to hold their actions on May 8, since today is eight months after Igor Stenin began serving his term in the colony.
