Hundreds of activists protest against moving South-Ossetian border into Georgia's territory

In Georgia, near the village of Bershueti in the Gori District, activists held a protest action against a transfer of the administrative border with South Ossetia into the territory of Georgia. Several hundred people came to the protest action, including members of a number of opposition parties, NGOs, students, and media representatives. They arranged a procession from the village of Bershueti to the place of the transfer of the border, which was fenced with a police tape.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia accused South Ossetia of relocating the banner designating the border. About 10 hectares of land were lost, said the residents of the Georgian village of Bershuti. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) refuted these statements.

The protest action at the border was held for several hours, during which the protestors performed the anthem of Georgia and lined up in a "live chain." In their hands, the protestors were holding posters reading in Georgian, English and Russian: "No Occupation", "State border is not here", and "Stop Russia". Besides, they came to the protest action with flags of Georgia, the United States, and Ukraine.

"The public activity is very important. And we see that ... in fact, new territories are being appropriated," said Paata Davitaya, the leader of the opposition "European Democrats" Party on the air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel.

The transfer of the administrative border into the country near the village of Bershueti was confirmed by David Tservadze, an official from the Gori District administration in the village of Bershueti. According to him, the banners marking the border were moved to 700 meters deep into Georgia. Meanwhile, 10 hectares of land were cut off from the village, David Tservadze stated.
