Abdulmumin Gadjiev's colleagues hold solo pickets
Today, about a dozen Gadjiev's colleagues and friends have come to the central square of Makhachkala to support the journalist, since at 12:00 a.m. Moscow time, a session was scheduled at the Supreme Court (SC) on election of his freedom restraint measure.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the "Chernovik", was arrested on June 18, 2019. On September 10, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala extended his arrest for another two months.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev was arrested within the case of financing terrorism. He believes his case was falsified. According to Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", Gadjiev suffered because of his articles on Islamic topics.
Several Gadjiev's colleagues have held solo pickets demanding to release the journalist. Drivers of passing cars honked the picketers as a sign of support. There were no detentions during the series of solo pickets, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the venue.
Gadjiev's colleagues and friends are ready to hold solo pickets against his persecution on a weekly basis, Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik" weekly, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He has suggested that Abdulmumin Gadjiev's criminal case could lead to the closure of the "Chernovik". "I declare officially and firmly that we'll continue writing articles and news in all our and affiliated sources of information against terrorists, bribe takers, nepotism, budget thieves and violators of the Russian legislation," Mr Kamalov has stated.
