Refugees from Gadrut District demand to return their homeland

Participants of an action near the building of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) dated their protest to a visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The protestors demand a meeting with the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs. The MFA should activate diplomatic processes so that residents of Gadrut could return home, forced migrants note.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in the course of an action in Stepanakert, refugees from the regions of Nagorno-Karabakh, which had come under the control of Azerbaijan after the autumn war, demanded to start peace talks on the transfer of the lost territories to the Armenian side and the return of refugees to their homes. On the same day, an action of the "In the Name of Gadrut" movement, created by refugees from the Gadrut District, took place in Yerevan.

The protesters came to hand over an appeal to the Armenian Foreign Minister with the demand to meet residents of Gadrut within a week. “Everyone is interested in Nagorno-Karabakh, except for the authorities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh,” one of the activists stated as quoted by the “Aysor.Am”.

The residents of Gadrut want to return to their homeland, a participant of the protest action explains.

Gadrut, Kashatag, and Karvachar must be returned to ensure the security of Armenia, emphasizes Levon Airyan, an initiator of the creation of the public organization "In the Name of Gadrut".
