Apsheronsk
Rayon (sector) centre in Krasnodar kray (region), 357 km south-east of Krasnodar. Located in Ciscaucasia, on the Pshekha River (in the basin of the Kuban River). Railway station (Apsheronskaya) in a branch of the Armavir - Tuapse line. Population (1992 est.) 35.3 thousand, (1959 est.) 29.8 thousand, (1979 est.) 33.1 thousand.
Founded in 1863 as the stanitsa (Cossack village) of Apsheronskaya. Town since 1947. Modern Apsheronsk has woodworking and food enterprises; production of shop equipment, preforms of musical instruments, containers; processing of medicinal and ethereous crops. Apsheronsk is an agricultural centre. There are thermal springs of iodide-bromine waters in the environs of the town.
