Rostov townspeople demand to protect park trees from felling
In the Friendship Park in the city of Rostov-on-Don, 237 healthy trees are planned to be cut down during the improvement works, townspeople have complained. They called on the Governor, Vasily Golubev, to protect the park from being ruined.
Works in the park began this spring. According to Elena Khatlamadjiyan, the head of the "City Patrol" public movement, a document has been drafted to fell about 20% of all the trees in the park, the "Rostov-Gazeta" writes.
Earlier, in July, activists of the "City Patrol" found several cut trees in the park that were not supposed for felling, the "1rnd.ru" writes. The Committee for Environment Protection has visited the park; and experts confirmed that three trees were cut down illegally.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the summer of 2020, townspeople of Rostov-on-Don opposed the felling of the grove, the territory of which was planned to be given away for car parking. On August 11, the court obliged the entrepreneur to return the land plot in the grove.
