Seven residents of Chechnya publicly reprimanded for drinking alcohol
The police chief of the Urus-Martan ROVD (District Interior Division) has reprimanded seven persons for drinking alcohol and driving cars while intoxicated; a respective was posted in the social network. Commentators expressed bewilderment at posting such entries.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechen law enforcers are regularly chastising local residents on various occasions and post videos of these actions in social networks. Thus, in January, law enforcers in the Gudermes District detained and reprimanded a young man who had violated traffic rules. The video posted on January 25 showing law enforcers chastising six schoolgirls and their parents in the Urus-Martan District sparked a negative resonance in social media.
A feature of so-called “prophylactic talks” in Chechnya is the desire to humiliate violators, Svetlana Gannushkina*, a human rights defender, has pointed out. Evgeny Chernousov, a lawyer, has noted that law enforcers can post videos of such conversations only with the perpetrators’ consent.
A group of men in the Urus-Martan District was publicly scolded, the Instagram public "ChP Grozny No. 1" has reported.
The event was attended by perpetrators’ relatives, who "promised to educate their relatives-offenders." “The violators themselves have sincerely repented of their deeds and gave their word that they would improve,” says the caption to the video.
Most commentators were outraged by posting the violators’ faces.
