Dagestani resident sentenced to mandatory labour for his post against mobilization
The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan approved the decision of the court, which imposed 120 hours of compulsory labour on Rasul Bammatov, finding him guilty of posting a call against mobilization.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that protests against the mobilization took place in Makhachkala on September 25 and 26, 2022, and they ended in mass detentions. The authorities of Dagestan refused to recognize the street protests against the mobilization in the republic as an initiative of local residents and stated that the protest actions in Makhachkala were controlled “including from abroad.”
The reason for drawing up an administrative protocol against Rasul Bammatov was his post in a messenger against the mobilization. The Karabudakhkent District Court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 120 hours of compulsory labour. Rasul Bammatov pleaded not guilty, saying that the mobile phone was used by his family members and that he did not know who exactly posted the message.
Rasul Bammatov filed a complaint against the verdict, considering it illegal, but the court decided that there were no violations of procedural requirements in the case.
