Ingush prosecutors report being ordered to shave off their beards
The administration of the Ingush prosecutor’s office instructed employees to shave off their beards under threat of dismissal, and the overwhelming majority of them complied with the order, employees of the Ingush prosecutor’s office reported.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 16, prisoners took several warders hostage at a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Rostov-on-Don. The attackers identified themselves as members of the “Islamic State”*. Law enforcers killed the attackers and freed the hostages.
An employee of the Ingush prosecutor’s office reports that the order to shave off the beards was sent to all employees of the department after the hostage taking in the Rostov SIZO.
“At that time, many people in the public space expressed their indignation not by the conditions of detention, but by the big beards and hairstyles of the attackers,” the source noted.
Activists and politicians from the republics of Northern Caucasus criticized the proposal to ban the wearing of religious clothing. So, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov claimed that those who opposed wearing hijabs were enemies of Islam. The leader of Chechnya promised to shoot and kill anyone who would tell his daughter to take off her hijab.
*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation recognized the organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
