KBR convict proves to ECtHR violation of his rights in colony

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has recognized the round-the-clock video surveillance in a Krasnoyarsk colony as a violation of the rights of Murat Kanikhov, a convict kept there. However, no compensation was awarded.

Kanikhov complained about the violation of his rights due to his detention in the cells of the colony with round-the-clock video surveillance from 2010 to 2021. He pointed out that women could have worked as video surveillance operators.

In 2003, the earlier convicted Murat Kanikhov was sentenced by the Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) to 21 years of freedom deprivation for participation in a gang, robbery and murder.
