On March 9, Georgian opposition starts a new wave of protests

The members of the oppositional United National Board held an extraordinary briefing in the Office of the People's Party and announced that a new wave of protests would be launched at the Parliament of Georgia at 2:00 p.m. on March 9.

Koba Davitashvili, leader of the People's Party, has stated that in the opinion of the whole international community, Mikhail Saakashvili is illegitimate, therefore, in addition to previous requirements the opposition now moves a new one: holding of new presidential election.

According to Mr Davitashvili, during vote tabulation at the presidential election on January 5, the opinion of 35 percent of the voters was disregarded, while 23 percent of the votes were very badly counted. By the conclusion of the OSCE, at one third of the polling stations the vote tabulation was contrary to the established rules. It means that the election was falsified. This is why we demand to hold a new presidential election.

On March 4, a briefing was held in Georgia on the issue on making amendments in the Constitution of the country. The participants were the members of the United National Board of the opposition and the New Right-Wingers Party.

According to the leader of the united opposition Levan Gachechiladze, the dialogue of the opposition with the authorities is in the deadlock, since the authorities have actually broken the agreements.
