Dagestani blogger Askhabali Alibekov sentenced to colony term

A court in Kazan has found Askhabali Alibekov, a blogger from Novorossiysk, guilty of attacking a policeman and sentenced him to two years and four months in a maximum security penal colony. This was reported by the human rights project "OVD-Info"*.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the prosecution has demanded four years of freedom deprivation for Alibekov. He himself demanded a recusal of the court and a psychiatric examination. According to investigators, during his detention, Askhabali Alibekov, a native of Dagestan and the author of the YouTube channel "Wild Paratrooper", struck the policeman twice in the leg. The blogger said that he hit the law enforcer by accident, as his arms were twisted. Human rights defenders recognized Alibekov as a political prisoner.

In March 2023, Alibekov was sentenced to one year and two months of freedom deprivation. The court found that the video he had posted in his YouTube channel discredited the Russian Army. Last November, Alibekov was released. Back in 2022, when he was persecuted for his pacifist position, human rights defenders also declared him as a political prisoner.
