Elista Mayor arrested again in Kalmykia

In Kalmykia, Mayor of the capital, Elista, Radiy Burulov is again placed behind bars, as ruled by the Elista City Court.

We remind you that on August 7 the Supreme Court of Kalmykia cancelled the decision of the Elista City Court on Radiy Burulov's arrest and ruled to set him free.

However, the new composition of the Elista City Court in its session on August 11 satisfied the petition of the investigatory bodies to apply arrest to Burulov as his freedom restriction measure. The Mayor of Elista was arrested anew right in the courtroom, the "Interfax" Agency reports with reference to the press service of the Supreme Court of Kalmykia.

In her turn, Angelica Gurskaya, Mayor's advisor, has informed the Agency that the court session was closed, and neither journalists nor supporters of the parties were admitted to the hearing.

"The defence is going to re-file a cassation complaint against the City Court's ruling," Ms Gurskaya said.

The "Kommersant" newspaper adds that the decision to arrest the Mayor was made by Judge Rimma Tyumdeeva. The Court took the argument of inspectors that Burulov's departure outside Kalmykia from medical treatment would be a breach of his recognizance not to leave.
